Make up through the eyes of a stylist

0 reacties

There is a natural order to accomplishing most anything in life: Lather, rinse, repeat. Love, marriage, baby in a carriage. High school, college, job (if you’re lucky). But some things, like putting on a fresh face of makeup, are a little more complicated.

What do you do first: Apply lipstick or focus on eyes? Where does blush come in? Can you get away with putting liner on after mascara? We talked with Cristina Bartolucci, NYX’s chief creative director and co-founder of DuWop, who gave us her formula for putting together a perfect face. Of course, not everyone will use all steps, but even if you skip the powder or cheeks, this is a still a good working order to follow!

1: Primer or Moisturizer

“Choose one, not both,” Bartolucci says. “Moisturizer, no matter how light in texture, will interfere with the function of a primer.” Also, always remember to get in your sunscreen, whether SPF is built into your primer, moisturizer, or foundation.

2: Foundation

“I do not believe in doing the eyes first to avoid fallout,” Bartolucci says, noting that fallout is bound to happen when you are using eye shadow. ”When product falls onto bare skin, the pigment can be even harder to remove. It’s better to create a canvas with the foundation and then correct any mistakes as a finishing touch.”

3: Concealer

“Here is where you look at your face with a critical eye and add concealer sparingly,” says Bartolucci. She recommends only on blemishes or dark circles. “You want to wait until after the foundation because foundation will do a lot of the job for you.”

4: Powder

“Set it all with a very light dusting of translucent powder. This will help make it easier to remove fallout from eye shadow and give the base time to settle in while you apply the rest of your makeup.”

5: Eyes or lips

“I like to mix them up,” says Bartolucci. “After the face, I usually do the eyes first, but sometimes I’ll start with the lips because it gives me time to think about what I really want to do on the eyes.”

For Eyes: shadow > liner > then mascara. This is the order Bartolucci follows for applying eye makeup. “But always go back and layer,” she suggests. “Add a little more liner at the lash line, an extra pop of shimmer shadow in the center of the lid, etc.”

For Lips: balm > liner > lipstick > then gloss. Bartolucci suggests smudging liner all over your lips and rubbing it in with fingertips before applying lipstick. And of course, use gloss only if you want!

6: Cheeks

“I do the cheeks last for two reasons. One, it ties the eyes and lips together. Two, if you’re using a powder, you can sweep it across the lids after the eye makeup is done to add an extra pop.”

FALL 2013 HAIR TREND REPORT

0 reacties

As is so often the case in fashion and in life, the fall runways were a study in contrasts. Hairstylists everywhere breathed a sigh of job-security-inspired-relief to finally see hair that was actually done: Riotous volume at Marc by Marc Jacobs, punk pin-curls at Givenchy, and princessy plaits at Rodarte. Real women were simultaneously reassured by the simple elegance of messy low ponys at Oscar de la Renta, easy texture at Proenza Schouler, and barely-there waves at Pucci. Those of us who like a little surprise looked to Anna Sui’s over-the-top updos (visible only from the back) or Rag & Bone’s insta-bangs, created with a clever side part—no scissors in sight. This season, there’s something for everyone.

Low Pony's, 3 Ways:
As we reported, spring ponytails were positioned at the nape and ironed to emphasize their sleekness. For fall, the position stayed put but textures differed. At Oscar de la Renta, Lanvin, Richard Chai Love and Rachel Zoe, pieces were pulled down around the face or tucked behind the ears to emphasize the style. While at Chloé and John Galliano, the hair was swept back and sharply parted. Stylists at Ralph Lauren and Moschino, on the other hand, created girlish, bouncier versions.

Side Faux Bangs:

Why make the commitment of full-on bangs when a simple part can give you a believable (and beautiful) approximation? At Rag & Bone (left), Redken creative consultant Guido said, “creating the low side part and sweeping the hair over the forehead gives the tom-boyish style a feminine feel." Models at Dries Van Noten and Marni had similarly wispy fringe; versions at Reem Acra and Tracy Reese were thicker, as bobby pins tucked behind the ears held chunky sections of hair in place.

Udone Texture:There’s something strangely alluring about unfussy hair. To create the look at Proenza Schouler (picture), Fekkai stylist Paul Hanlon blew hair dry with a diffuser, gently twisting sections with his fingers for an ever-so-subtle wave. (A brush would have lent too much polish.) “The hair wasn’t too considered. It’s an effortless cool,” he says. The story was the same at Helmut Lang, Altuzarra, Vera Wang, and Yigal Azrouel: Simplicity rules.

Braids Revisited:There’s nothing new about a braid. Just ask Guido, who created this ultra-clean version at Valentino. “I've done a side braid before, but it was always sexier, like at Alexander Wang a few years ago. This one is more minimal," he says. Other stylists’ added their own unique twists (or should we say plaits?). At Rodarte, Odile Gilbert, working with John Frieda, connected tiny princess braids into a sweet rosette, while at Badgley Mischka, Peter Gray tried a reverse French. At Fendi models’ sported ropey, inside-out versions, and at Christian Siriano, Aveda stylist Antoinette Beenders wove together two inverted fishtails.

Celebrities part 1

Who doesn't know Kylie Jenner ?? The junior of the Kardashians. She's my favorite of the Kardashians. Why? Well she has her own style, acts like she doens't care what people think about her and stays herself.

Kylie have 2 faces. A rock chick and a girly girl.
I love both sides of her. But I think that I love the girly girl side a little bit more. Because i'm a girly girl maybe that's the reason behind it.

I'm a little bit jealous of her. She has long hair, awesome clothes and her make-up. I can't do that to myself hahaha

Polyvore

Polyvore. Who doens't know that site. I started mine 2 years ago. I always liked fashion. And then making your own sets with designer clothes that's just awesome. One of my dreams are to have a own fashion line or that I'm a designer of photograph for a famous fashion designer. I don't think that's ever gonna happen...

So since today I'm back online on Polyvore. And I started to make new sets. I have one fave fashion designer. Michael Kors. I love this name. I have glasses, sunglasses, a bag and a wallet from him. I'm obsessed with Michael Kors.

So you can guess. The first brand I've picked for my come back set was Michael Kors.

I choosed the two colours: Black and Gold. When I make a set I always look which colours match and look gorgeous and which don't.

When I look at Michael Kors his colour choice the most of the time are the colours black, gold, brown, white and grey. You can wear those colours every day and every season. "My opinion."

So if you guys have an polyvore account message me and I follow you back (:

So the first day we went shopping. And the first thing I saw was topshop. I don't have a topshop in my home town so I was really excited to go in.
I bought there a new elastic headband from 18 pounds and a travel hairbrush for 12 pounds. (Pictures come later)

It was awesome. In the next post I let you guys see what I've bought in London (:

10 Hair Rules You're Probably Breaking

0 reacties
Hair

1) Find a shampoo that lathers less. Sudsy doesn’t necessarily mean clean—sometimes, it means the opposite. Shampoos that lather too much are often overloaded with moisturizing products, which can leave build-up in your hair, making it look and feel dirtier quicker. So opt for a sulfate-free formula.
2) Give your locks a burst of cold. Before you hop out of the shower, turn the cold water on for a second and quickly rinse it through your strands. It helps seal the cuticle, adding a sleek finish to your locks.
3) Play hot-and-cold as you dry. When using a round brush to dry your hair in sections, start from the roots and dry all the way to the ends, letting the brush linger at the tips of your strands. Let your hair cool off like this on its own for five seconds, then repeat on another section. Alternating between heat and cool-down time helps set your style, and your blowout will have more body.
4) Do an at-home glaze between color appointments.Glazes fill holes and rough spots in your hair cuticles, helping smooth your locks and put moisture back into your hair. This keeps your color shiny and bright so it lasts longer and look better. Plus, you can snag an at-home kit from your local drugstore.
5) Use rollers for high-volume. For sex-kitten lift, blow out your locks until they’re dry. Then, section off the hair on top of your head—between your temples and all the way back to the crown of your hair. Divide that section into three smaller sections vertically (as if you were making a mohawk), and wrap each in a 2-inch velcro hair roller. Let your hair sit like this for 30 minutes, and then unwrap your strands, lightly comb them out, and spray for hold.
6) Drop the towel. Keeping wet strands wrapped in a towel for a half-hour as you do your make-up will just cause frizz! The roughness of the cotton forces your hair cuticles open, making them more likely to go every-which-way. Instead, squeeze out excess water as soon as you’re out of the shower, then let your hair air-dry for five or ten minutes before blowdrying.
7) Apply products 10 minutes before you style. Whether you’re curling, straightening, or whatevering, applying product 10 minutes in advance helps it fully absorb into your strands so you get all of its benefits and more bang for your buck.
8) Wrap—don’t clamp—your hair for quick curls. When using a curling iron, you don’t need to fasten your locks to the barrel. Wrap sections around the iron and hold in place for about 10 seconds to score the same soft, sexy curls.
9) Use spray bottles as your new lazy-day BFF. If you wake up and your locks are totally flat or grungy from the day before, just spray the top layer of your hair until damp, and then use a big barrel roundbrush (2 inches or more) to blow your locks dry. You’ll score high volume on that top layer, and since it’s freshly blown out, you’ll create the illusion of all-over smooth hair.
10) Use dry shampoo a different way. Instead of waiting until your locks need an dirt-fighting pick-me-up, apply a dab of dry shampoo to your roots immediately after you wash and dry them. Though your hair’s already clean, the barrier will stave off the debris and oil your strands will collect throughout the day before it hits. Bonus: It also gives you killer volume.

Outfit & hair today

It was soooo warm today, 31 celcius, it is insane. So I decides to wore my yellow dress from a local markt in France. I did my make-up natural, eyeliner and mascara. It was to warm for foundation and powder. So I skipped that. I decided to curl my hair and clip my bangs back.

Yesterday I went to the hairdresser and decided to cut all my dead ends of and cut my bangs a little shorter.

My hair from the back.

Because it's summervacation and almost everyone goes on holiday you need to pack. So I have for you guys a few tips for smart packing.Ti

Before I'm packing my suitcase, I always make a list with things I need to pack. It's a habbit from me. I think making a list is really handy. You never forget something.

So the most important things are underwear, medicine, passport or ID and ofcourse beauty stuff.

What beauty products I pack for my vacation. The most important things are ofcourse my foundation, powers and blusher, eyeliner and mascara. In addition to these things I also take my bodylotion, heat protection spray, curling iron and straightener. Deodorant, toothbrush and mu brushes and comb.

For pleasure at your vacation I recomend magazines, Ipod with your favorite music on it, books or an laptop.
